WILDWOOD – On July 22 at approximately 10:57 p.m., members of the Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division responded to the area of Burk and Tacony Avenues here to investigate a report of terroristic threats.
Upon the arrival of police officers to the scene, it was learned that a male had threatened to burn down the house of the Mayor of the City of Wildwood, Gary DeMarzo, with the mayor inside the residence.
A description of the perpetrator was obtained and broadcast to the officers on duty.
The perpetrator was arrested without incident moments later in the 300 block of West Burk Avenue, after being positively identified as the perpetrator by Mayor DeMarzo.
The incident had started when Mr. DeMarzo advised a group of subjects who had been acting in a disorderly manner in the 300 West block of Burk Avenue to quiet down and move along.
At that point the accused, who was identified as Anthony J. Vesper, a 23 year-old Wildwood resident who is employed as an exotic dancer in Atlantic City, began to yell at Mr. DeMarzo and use profanity towards him prior to Mr. Vesper making his threatening statement to Mayor Demarzo.
Mr. Vesper was charged with terroristic threats, a crime of the third degree, and disorderly conduct, a petty disorderly person’s offense.
The Honorable Judge Louis Belasco set bail on these offenses at $5,000 cash/bond no ten percent.
Mr. Vesper could not post the required bail and was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
