COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor, Middle Township Chief of Police Christopher Leusner and Lieutenant Douglas Pearson of the New Jersey State Police announced that April 25, Philip Hand III, 25, of the 200 block of Hagen Road in Dennis Township, was sentenced in the Cape May County Superior Court to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison for the sexual assault of a five-year-old child in Dennis Township, which occurred on one occasion between August 2005 and November 2006.
Hand was arrested March 28, 2013, following an investigation by the New Jersey State Police, Woodbine Barracks and Troop A Investigations Section. On December 20, 2013, Hand plead guilty to first-degree aggravated sexual assault. Assistant Prosecutor Dara Paley represented the state in the case. Superior Court Judge Patricia M. Wild sentenced Hand to10 years in New Jersey State Prison pursuant to the No Early Release Act (NERA). Hand must serve 85 percent of the sentence, or eight years, six months, and two days before becoming eligible for parole.
