Man Charged in Court House Stabbing

COURT HOUSE – Members of the Middle Township Police Department Patrol Division along with members of the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department responded to a convenience store located at the intersection of Rt. 9 and Stone Harbor Boulevard in the Court House section of Middle Township for a report of a stabbing victim July 26 at approximately 1:13 a.m.
Upon arrival, it was determined a 21-year-old male was stabbed twice with a knife and the suspect had fled the area on foot. A short while later, the suspect was located and taken into custody.
The investigation revealed two vehicles were traveling on the Garden State Parkway and were stopped at the traffic light located at the intersection of the Garden State Parkway and Stone Harbor Boulevard when an argument occurred between the occupants of both vehicles. Both parties then traveled to the convenience store where the argument continued and ultimately turned physical, resulting in one of the occupants being stabbed.
The victim was transported to the Cape Regional Medical Center and then taken to AtlantiCare/City Division in Atlantic City. The accused, Victor Sawaichi, 26, from Court House was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree crime, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a third degree crime and unlawful possession of a weapon, a fourth degree crime. Sawaichi was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on $100,000 full cash bail set by the Judge George Neidig.
Detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Crime Scene Unit along with members of the Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit investigated the incident.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
