RIO GRANDE – John Armstrong was arrested for burglary, aggravated assault, and terroristic threats July 5 at 5:18 p.m. in Rio Grande.
Armstrong approached a citizen begging for cigarettes. When he was told no, he attempted to punch the victim. The victim then went into a nearby restaurant to get away from Armstrong. Armstrong followed the victim into the restaurant where he went into the kitchen area and attempted to gain possession of a knife. The kitchen staff was able to subdue him before he got the knife, and until patrol units arrived on scene.
Armstrong was taken into custody without incident, and the victim was unharmed.
Armstrong was taken to Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
