Man Arrested After Violation of Final Restraining Order

BURLEIGH — Middle Township Police report they received a report of a disturbance and a reported violation of a restraining order in the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue here.
Police said upon arrival they observed the front door to the home kicked or forced open, and inside observed the victim engaged in a physical altercation with the homeowner. Sgt. John Edwards intervened and in an attempt to subdue the accused, fell to the ground with the accused, injuring his ankle. Edwards sustained a possible fracture, police said.
The accused later resisted while being treated by Rio Grande Rescue personnel and assaulted one of the EMTs, police said.
Police identified the accused as Askia L. Givens, 19, of Woodbine. He was charged with burglary, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on an EMT, violation of a final restraining order, criminial mischief and DWI. He was lodged at the Cape May County jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail set by Superior Court Judge Raymond Batten. The case is being investigated by Patrolman Doug Osmundsen and Felix Cruz.
