COURT HOUSE – The sentencing of Joshua Malmgren, 33, of Wildwood, for aggravated manslaughter, which is a crime of the first degree, was announced by Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner Dec. 5.
On July 31, 2012, at approximately 9:17 p.m., the Middle Township Police Department responded to the report of an auto pedestrian accident at 14 Bayshore Road, in the Green Creek section of Middle Township. Upon arrival, officers discovered two unresponsive teenage girls lying on the side of the road. A short time later, these two girls were pronounced deceased via telemetry. Officers observed the driver of the vehicle, Joshua Malmgren still on the scene. An investigation ensued by the Major Crimes Unit of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and Detectives from the Middle Township Police Department. It was learned that Joshua Malmgren operated his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs.
In Sept. 2014, Joshua Malmgren plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the death of these two teenage girls. On Dec. 5, Joshua Malmgren was sentenced by Judge John Porto of the Superior Court to 18 years in New Jersey State Prison with the ‘No Early Release’ provision which stipulates that the defendant must serve a minimum of 85 percent of the imposed sentence.
Prosecutor Taylor recognizes the efforts of the agencies involved which resulted in the successful conclusion of this investigation and prosecution.
