COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced that a Villas man accused of conspiracy to possess a controlled dangerous substance was found guilty Feb. 20.
According to a release, Adam McCarraher, 24, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess a controlled dangerous substance, specifically sublingual suboxone, burprenorphine, a schedule III controlled dangerous substance.
A jury of McCarraher’s peers returned a guilty verdict, agreeing with the state’s proofs after a one-week trial was complete. McCarraher is scheduled to be sentenced on April 6.
On Aug. 27, 2015, the Cape May County Correctional Center conducted an investigation of controlled dangerous substances being surreptitiously brought into the county’s Correctional Center under the direction of McCarraher.
Through a thorough investigation conducted by members of the Correctional Center’s Investigations Unit, it was discovered that the controlled dangerous substance, suboxone, was placed into mail that would be delivered to the jail and eventually delivered to McCarraher.
As a result of the investigation, the attempt failed, as the illegal substance was intercepted by members of the Investigations Unit.
Sutherland recognized the investigative work by officers from the Investigations Unit of the Cape May County Correctional Center, along with Assistant Prosecutor Ed Shim, which resulted in a guilty verdict of conspiracy to possess a schedule III controlled dangerous substance.
