Public Service Announcement:
Lower Township Police would like to remind its citizens that distracted driving can have dire consequences and the Police Department is currently participating in the Distracted Driving 2015 Statewide Crackdown. This is part of a nationwide enforcement effort, with the slogan UDrive. UText. UPay. The purpose of the campaign is to undertake visible, targeted enforcement during April, which is National Distracted Driving Month. It is illegal in New Jersey to operate a motor vehicle while using a handheld electronic device. Violating this law subjects motorists to fines of a minimum of $200 for a first offense, a minimum of $400 for a second offense, and a minimum of $600 for a third offense with a possibility of a 90 day suspension of driver’s license and three (3) motor vehicle penalty points.
In addition, please remind your children that it is just as dangerous, if not more so, to use your cell phone while bicycling. As the warmer months approach, our streets become even busier, so please help keep our children safe as well.
