VILLAS – Officers from the Lower Township Police Department responded to a call in the 100 block of Evergreen Avenue Oct. 14, at about 5 a.m., for a subject that had sustained a knife wound.
According to a release, upon arrival, officers found the victim with a severe laceration to the side of his head.
The victim told officers that he had caught someone breaking into his car and a struggle ensued. The victim was treated on scene by Lower Township Rescue and then transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and medical care.
The Cape May County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit responded, in an attempt to track the assailant.
During the investigation, William Wright Jr., 18, of Villas, approached detectives on the scene and was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault, as well as weapons charges.
Wright was then lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
As the investigation proceeded, it was determined that the altercation had been the result of a dispute over the sale of methamphetamine.
Two other individuals have been identified as being involved in this crime and the sale of narcotics, and are being sought.
This investigation was assisted by the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
