Lower Township Police Charge Suspect for Vehicle Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief

By Press Release

VILLAS – Lower Township police responded to a reported burglary of a vehicle on East Virginia Avenue in Villas, Oct. 16, at around 11:25 p.m.

According to a release, upon arrival, Special Officer Timothy Urquhart spoke with the victim, who advised their vehicle had been broken into and that there was extensive damage.

Witnesses stated that the unknown suspect had just fled the area on foot and a detailed description was given. Officers conducted a search of the immediate area without result.

A short time later, officers received additional information of a male subject, meeting the previous description, in the area of East New York Avenue.

Cpl. Jennifer Elwell and Patrol Officer Thomas Shough responded and were able to make contact with a suspect. He was identified as Gary R. Nelson, 34, from Court House.

Further investigation revealed Nelson was in possession of allegedly stolen items from the original complaint.

He was placed under arrest. A search of his person revealed a pair of pliers that may have been used to commit the burglary.

Nelson was transported to Lower Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and placed on a warrant for burglary, criminal mischief, and theft, authorized by Municipal Court Judge Marian Ragusa.

He was transported to and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility where he awaited adjudication.

The above was received from a law enforcement agency. The person named is innocent unless proven otherwise.
