Lower Township Police Charge Man with Aggravated Sexual Assault

ERMA — On Feb. 15, Lower Township Police Department concluded an investigation into the aggravated sexual assault of a 13-year-old female by a 66-year-old male.
The suspect identified as Anthony J. Becica, of the 600 block of Bayshore Road Villas, was charged with aggravated sexual assault.
Becica was arrested at his residence on Feb. 14 in the late evening hours. He was processed at the Lower Township Police Department and then transferred to the Cape May County Correctional Center.
Becica was originally charged with criminal sexual contact. Following further investigation by the Lower Township Detective Division and the Cape May County Prosecutors office, he was also charged with aggravated sexual assault.
Superior Court Judge S. Kemble Salvo set bail at $75,000 cash for the aggravated sexual assault. Lower Township Municipal Court Judge David DeWeese had previously set bail at $15,000 for the criminal sexual contact charge. Aggravated sexual assault is a crime of the first degree and carries an ordinary term from 10 to 20 years in prison.
Lower Township Police Detective Edward Dougherty and Patrolman William Barcas conducted the investigation with assistance of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
