VILLAS- Lower Township Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Nov. 16 at approximately 3:01 p.m. at the Villas Fishing Club located at 301 Pennsylvania Avenue in the Villas section of Lower Township.
The Initial report to police was that a male patron, who was at the Villas Fishing Club with other family members, had left money sitting on the bar while playing pool. This person observed a male subject later identified as Nicholas Frederick, 22, of Arbor Road, Villas, take his money and place it in his pocket. The 56 year-old victim confronted Frederick in the parking lot as he left the establishment. After words were exchanged between the victim and Frederick a physical altercation occurred. Frederick struck the victim in the eye and then fled the area prior to police arrival. He was pursued by family members of the victim, who caught and detained him until police did arrive on scene.
Police arrested Frederick on scene and charged him with theft of the money. He was taken to the Lower Township Police Department where he was processed and released on a summons.
Further investigation into this incident was conducted by the Lower Township Police Department. Upon completion of the investigation conducted by Lower Township Detective Bureau, Frederick was additionally charged with robbery. The robbery charge is due to the assault on the victim at the time of the theft.
Frederick presently is incarcerated at the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $35,000 bail.
