Lower Police to Crack Down on Drunk Driving During Holidays

By Jack Fichter

ERMA — Lower Township police will be cracking down on drunk drivers as part of the annual holiday season “Over the Limit, Under Arrest,” statewide campaign.
Beginning Dec. 7 and running through Jan. 3. 2010, local and state law enforcement officials will conduct saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.
Impaired drivers kill nearly 18,000 people on our nation’s roadways each year. In 2005, 52 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related crashes in New Jersey.
Police advise using a designated driver, taking a taxi, spending the night where the party was held or asking a friend to drive you home if you have been drinking. New Jersey drivers may report impaired drivers to law enforcement by dialing #77 on their cell phones.
