By Herald Staff

LOWER TOWNSHIP POLICE RELEASE:
VILLAS — The Lower Township Police Department on Sunday June 21, 2009 at approximately 4:00 am was contacted by the Cape Regional Medical Center regarding a victim of a stabbing which occurred in the Villas section of Lower Township.
Patrol personnel and detectives responded to the hospital and possible scene of the stabbing/ slashing in the area of East Weber Avenue. During the investigation the victim identified as Kevin Kelly 20 years of age of East Weber Avenue in the Villas was uncooperative and had stated he was attacked by an unknown subject and gave a vague description.
Further investigation showed discrepancies in the victim’s account of where the attack took place and the victim was treated at the hospital with approximately 30 stitches to close various slash marks across his stomach and back.
The investigation is continuing and this crime appears to be the result of a mutual altercation and not a random act of violence.
Detective First Class Mel Hedum is investigating the case.
