Lower Police Confiscate Marijuana Plants from Villas Backyard

VILLAS — On Sept. 23 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Lower Township Police Department
received an anonymous report of large marijuana Plants being grown in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Spruce Avenue in Villas.
S/O Michael Kennedy responded to the area. The officer was then able to take up a position where he could view the back yard of the home in question and was able to observe in plain
view, four large Marijuana Plants, each approximately four feet tall, being grown in separate buckets.
After further investigation, the homeowner, identified as Dennis J. Basse, 58, of the 100 Block of Spruce Avenue, was arrested and transported to Lower Township Police Department where he was charged with growing and/or manufacturing marijuana, being a 3rd Degree crime.
Basse was released on a summons with a court date.
The Lower Township Police Department confiscated the Marijuana Plants and turned them over to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Evidence Unit. The incident was investigated by S/O Michael Kennedy and Detective Joseph Boyle.
