Lower Police Charge West Wildwood Man with Burglary, Mischief

By Herald Staff

NORTH CAPE MAY — On Feb. 17 at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Lower Township Police Department received a call from a female in the 300 Block of Bryant Avenue reporting that a man had just caused a disturbance and caused damage at her home.
While responding to the call, Officer William McPherson located a male subject in the area identified as Robert Barney, 20, of Glenwood Avenue, West Wildwood.
Investigation on scene determined that Barney was known to the homeowners and was involved in a heated dispute with them earlier in the evening.
According to police, Barney was asked to leave the residence after which the owners locked the front door. Barney then returned later, punched out a window, kicked in the front door and flipped over the entertainment center.
Barney was charged with burglary and criminal mischief. He was lodged in county jail on $25,000 bail.
The incident was investigated by Patrolman William McPherson.
