VILLAS — On Mon., Sept. 22 at approximate 4:20 p.m. Lower Township Police Department received a 9-1-1 Call reporting that a 17 year old male had been assaulted in the 200 block of Beechwood Avenue in the township’s Villas Section, by a group of subjects who had pulled up to the victim in a motor vehicle, before assaulting him.
A description of the vehicle and tag number was broadcast to Lower Township Patrol Units, while police officers and the Lower Township Rescue Squad responded to the scene of the assault.
A short time later, Lower Township Patrol Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on the suspect vehicle in the area of Breakwater and Shunpike Roads.
The juvenile advised officers that he was punched about the face and choked by several people from the car, then knocked to the ground where the group continued to assault him. At that point, an 18 year old man identified as Charles Antinori of Cape May, intervened on the juvenile’s behalf and pulled several of the attackers off of the juvenile.
The group then fled the scene in their motor vehicle. The juvenile sustained bruising around his neck from being choked and injuries to his face and knees.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the following subjects who were found in the motor
vehicle stop by Lower Township Police:
Matthew J. Deolibeira, 29, of the 500 Block of Seashore Road in Erma. Deolibeira was charged with Aggravated Assault and Use of a Juvenile in the Course of a Crime, this being a 1st Degree crime.
Carl R. Stewart 18, of the 500 Block of Seashore Road was charged with Aggravated Assault and Use of a Juvenile in the Course of a Crime, this being a 1st Degree crime.
The 17 year old male juvenile from Lower Township was charged with one (1) count of Aggravated Assault and an 17 year old female juvenile from Lower Township was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault.
The 17 year old male victim was treated on scene by Lower Township Rescue Squad and
then transported to Cape Regional Medical Center by his mother.
The incident is under investigation by Patrol Officer Dallas Bohn and Detective Joseph Boyle.
