By Herald Staff

VILLAS — On Jan. 31 at approximately 11:15 p.m., Lower Township police received a 9-1-1 call from a woman in the 200 block of West Bates Avenue, reporting that her boyfriend had assaulted her and was threatening her with a large sword.
Responding officers entered the home with their weapons drawn and demanded to see the male’s hands when he emerged from a bedroom.
The female advised officers that her boyfriend, Andrew Hollingsworth, 46, assaulted her by striking her about the face and throwing her several times into furniture. She stated when she went to call police her boyfriend produced a large sword removed it from its sheath and threatened her with the sword.
Officers located the sword in the bedroom and observed obvious signs of injuries to the female victim.
The Lower Township Rescue Squad was called to the scene to check on the female however she was not transported to the hospital.
When officers advised Hollingsworth that he was under arrest he became extremely violent and belligerent and combative towards the officers and physically resisted his arrest, police said. It took three Lower Township Police Officers to subdue Hollingsworth and bring him to the ground to be handcuffed.
Hollingsworth was later transported to Lower Township Police Department for processing where he was charged with the following offenses: simple assault during the course of a domestic violence incident, terroristic threats and resisting arrest.
He was placed on $15,000 cash bail issued by Lower Township Municipal Court Judge David DeWeese and lodged in county jail. The victim requested and received a temporary restraining order as a result of the incident.
The incident was investigated by Ptlm. Matthew Dickinson and Ptlm. C.J. Ryan. Officers assisting at the scene were Ptlm. Mike Majane and Cpl. Kevin Boyle.
