Lower Police Arrest Man for Warrants, Assault

NORTH CAPE MAY — On June 29 at approximately 2:35 a.m., Lower Township Police Officers responded to the parking lot of the Bayshore Inn here for a reported fight in the parking lot.
When officers arrived on scene, there was not a fight in progress, however officers observed William Brady Eckel, 23, of North Cape May, leaving the area on foot.
At the time Eckel had an outstanding warrant on him for Contempt of Court out of Lower Township.
According to police, Eckel ran behind the Bayshore Inn and jumped several fences with officers in foot pursuit. When Officer Eric Coombs caught up with Eckel, he attempted to strike Coombs and a struggle ensued at which point Eckel was brought to the ground and handcuffed.
In addition to the outstanding warrant, Eckel was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer and resisting arrest.
He was lodged in the Cape May County Jail on $25,000 cash bail set by Municipal Court Judge David DeWeese.
