Local Drug Court Holds Fifth Graduation Ceremony

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — The Superior Court Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage was scheduled to conduct its fifth Drug Court graduation ceremonies on March 23 in Atlantic County and on March 24 in Cape May County.
In this county, six participants graduated from the 5-year program and four were promoted to the fourth and final phase.
In Atlantic County, eight participants graduated. Another eight were promoted to the final phase.
Superior Court Judge Susan Maven presided over both events.
“The Drug Court program provides participants an opportunity to address serious substance abuse issues while at the same time paying their debt to society,” said Maven. “We are so proud of the graduates who, by making substantial changes in their lives and lifestyles, have proven that they are ready to move on to being productive members of our community.”
The Drug Court program began in both counties in September 2004. The Atlantic County program has 176 active participants and Cape May County has 134. Since 2004, 22 participants have graduated from the Atlantic County program and 14 have graduated from the Cape May County program.
