NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood Police responded to the 100 block of East 19th Avenue Nov. 6 at 3:46 p.m. for a report of an unwanted guest inside a residence.
Officers Mark Santiago and Kyle Zaleski approached the residence and learned the unwanted guest, identified as Abdul Hamilton, 31, from North Wildwood was armed with a knife. Hamilton was located outside of the residence, in an alley on the east side of the building, holding a 9″ kitchen knife. Officers with their weapons drawn repeatedly ordered Hamilton to drop the knife. Hamilton was only a few feet away from Officers Santiago and Zaleski during this encounter. Sgt. Keith McGee arrived on scene and presented his taser in the direction of Hamilton which ended the standoff after a few minutes. Sgt. McGee did not tase Hamilton. He only presented the taser in front of him.
Hamilton was charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault on police and terroristic threats. He was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on $15,000 full cash bail set by Judge Louis J. Belasco, PJMC.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
