WOODBINE— Tri-County animal control is conducting an investigation into the death of a dog that was found deep in the woods here on Grant Ave.
The dog was apparently tied to a tree. The dog’s badly decomposed body was located three weeks ago by an unidentified juvenile who showed the dog to a friend Tommy Ryan, 16, on Sunday, March 28. The dog was tied to a tree with a blue leash and pink flea collar.
Ryan reported the gruesome discovery to his mother, Tamara Ryan, who immediately contacted state police at the Woodbine station. The report was then turned over to animal control.
Animal Control Officer Joanne Hill responded to the location to investigate and retrieve the dog. Hill said due to the decomposition it may be difficult to identify who owns the dog, or who’s responsible for the dog’s death. Hill said the dog was a pit bull puppy, possibly a female because of the pink flea collar. Hill said the dog may have been in the woods since last summer. Due to the remote location, the dog barking probably went unnoticed.
According to Hill she has no reports of missing dog’s of that age or bread. Anyone with information is asked to call Tri-County Animal Control at (800) 992-7387.
