Judge Rules LCMR Responsible for Ballot

By Herald Staff

CAPE MAY – Superior Court Judge Julio Mendez ruled that Lower Cape May Regional School District is responsible for paying the cost of a ballot for a special election Dec. 9. The cost for the special ballot is $40,587, a fee LCMR had previously refused to pay.
Cape May City council discussed the matter of school funding at their Aug. 19 meeting. In the absence of a direct decision, the question of who will pay for the ballot on Cape May question was put to the Superior Court.
Concern over disadvantaged areas in relation to the tax burden led Cape May City to take up the issue of funding in the last few years with much debate coming from both sides.
