COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 18 indictments Sept. 27. The abbreviation for controlled dangerous substance used below is CDS.
James Dolan
James Dolan, 54, a resident of a group home on Route 47 in Middle Township, was indicted for second-degree aggravated assault and aggravated arson along with third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest. A final count of fourth-degree aggravated assault was added to the indictment.
On Aug. 30, police stated they responded to a call at a group home for a reported fire. Officers’ reports stated that Dolan was found in a bathroom with a lighter attempting to add to the fire by setting curtains ablaze. Damage to the structure was significant enough that other residents had to be relocated.
William Degnan
On Aug. 13 in North Wildwood, William Degnan allegedly failed to respond to signals to stop his vehicle and attempted to elude police. That set up the potential for harm to the public as he fled in the vehicle. Degnan, 20, of Washington Crossing, Pa., was indicted for second-degree eluding police and third-degree aggravated assault.
Matthew Hauser
Matthew Hauser, 27, of Somers Point, was indicted for a July burglary in Ocean City and theft greater than $500. The counts were both third- degree. Hauser was previously arrested for burglary in 2012.
Jay T. Calcott
Jay Calcott, 52, of Cape May, was indicted on two counts of theft by deception, fourth-degree. Calcott allegedly unlawfully obtained property by deception from two victims. In each case the amount was greater than $200 but below the $500 threshold that would have elevated the offenses to third-degree. The Herald reported that Calcott was indicted for theft by deception in February.
Roger Chester
Roger Chester was convicted in 2011 of possession of a CDS. That conviction made him a “certain person not to have a weapon.” In August in Middle Township Chester was allegedly in possession of a knife. He was indicted this week for certain person fourth degree.
William Whellan, Corey Ciancaglione
William Whellan and Corey Ciancaglione, 19, of Wildwood, were indicted for possession of a CDS, marijuana over 50 grams, fourth degree and possession with intent to distribute, third degree. The location of the alleged offense added counts for second-degree intent to distribute within 500 feet of public property and third-degree possession with intent within 1,000 feet of a school. A final fourth-degree count of possession of a prohibited weapon, a billy club, was added.
Leighann Robson
On Aug. 15, Leighann Robson, 39, of Rio Grande, allegedly engaged in aggravated assault on two Middle Township police officers getting her two third-degree counts in her indictment for aggravated assault. She is also facing a third count of resisting arrest, third-degree.
Joseph Monzo
On June 28, police say they attempted to stop Joseph Monzo, 21, of Cape May, for suspected driving while intoxicated when Monzo tried to flee in his vehicle. Police also reported that Monzo assaulted officers when being arrested. Monzo was indicted for second-degree eluding police, third degree resisting arrested and aggravated assault along with fourth-degree obstruction of the administration of law.
Timothy Letts
Timothy Letts, 27, of Villas, was indicted on four separate counts of fourth-degree uttering of a forged instrument along with one count of third-degree theft. Letts allegedly “presented as true” four checks made out against four separate accounts and payable to him. The indictment states that Letts presented these checks on four separate occasions in June and July all at the same check cashing establishment.
The first check was cashed of $1,650 and is the basis of the theft count in the indictment.
Joseph Van Leer, Jose Delrio
Joseph Van Leer, 26, and Jose Delrio, 29, both of Wildwood, were indicted for possession of a CDS, heroin, third degree. Delrio had additional counts for third-degree distribution of heroin as well as possession of buprenorphine. Both the additional counts were third degree. The incident occurred in July in Wildwood.
Van Leer, who was indicted under a separate indictment for an early March charge of possession of a CDS, third degree.
William Flynn, Colleen Cubernot, Benito Martinez
Colleen Cubernot and William Flynn, 54, both of Wildwood, were indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS. Benito Martinez, 37, of Burleigh, was indicted for distribution of a CDS, third degree.
Matthew Riding, Anthony Tartaglia, Christopher Van Dorn
Matthew Riding, 26, of Gloucester City, Anthony Tartaglia, 38, of Voorhees, and Christopher Van Dorn, 33, of Court House were indicted separately for possession of a CDS, third degree.
The above individuals are only charged with the offenses and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
