COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 14 indictments Oct. 18. The abbreviation CDS is used for controlled dangerous substance.
Amanda Cimpeanu
An Ocean City resident, Amanda Cimpeanu, 23, was indicted for third-degree theft. Cimpeanu allegedly withdrew $3,666 from a charity and used the funds for personal expenses. Cimpeanu had helped create the charity, the Betsy Young Memorial Fund, in honor of a popular Ocean City teacher who died of brain cancer in 2011.
Helen Lloyd, Jon Watson
In a case of workplace theft, Helen Lloyd, 39, of Elmer was indicted for second-degree theft and fourth-degree unlawful receipt of a credit card. Lloyd, an employee of a Wildwood condominium association, allegedly stole in excess of $75,000 from the association before her arrest. The theft occurred between September 2015 and March 2016.
Jon Watson was indicted with Lloyd on the theft or receipt of a credit card. The couple allegedly took possession of a card belonging to the association.
Maria Comisky
Maria Comisky, 30, of Cape May, was indicted for third-degree shoplifting and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Comisky took merchandise valued in excess of $500 from a Middle Township merchant. The indictment speaks of a yet “unidentified female minor child” for whom Comisky had a responsibility to care and who met the legal definition of a neglected or abused child.
Michael Bongiorno
Michael Bongiorno, 29, of Philadelphia, was indicted for resisting arrest, fourth degree, over an incident on Aug. 4 in Wildwood.
Michael Soto and Lloyd Slater
Michael Soto, 51, of Millville, and Lloyd Slater, 31, of Vineland, were indicted for shoplifting and conspiracy to shoplift, both counts third degree. Soto added to his charges when he allegedly tried to elude police in a motor vehicle. That resulted in a further count against him of third-degree eluding police. The incident occurred at a real estate office in Court House.
James Yenca
James Yenca, 44, was indicted for endangering the welfare of a child, second degree and also second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, along with fourth-degree prohibited devices, in this case hollow point bullets. He was arrested in Ocean City allegedly in possession of a 9 mm Ruger semi-automatic weapon.
Davin Williams
Davin Williams, 18, allegedly joined with a minor under the age of 17 to rob an individual in Ocean City Aug. 28. According to the indictment, Williams’ threat to harm the victim, placed the victim in fear of his life. The indictment for robbery is second degree. An added count of using a juvenile in the commission of a crime, first degree, was also added to the indictment.
Blanca Ravel
Blanca Ravel, of Wildwood Crest, was indicted for theft or receipt of a credit card, fourth-degree, along with two counts of third-degree use of the card. The indictment included another count for third-degree theft.
Edward Shaw
Edward Shaw, 29, of Burleigh, was indicted for fourth-degree aggravated assault on a Middle Township police officer.
Kevin Powell
Kevin Powell, 40, of Wildwood was indicted on two counts of third-degree distribution of a CDS, one count of possession of a CDS, third degree, and second-degree distribution within 500 feet of public property.
Powell was arrested on consecutive days in December 2015 for distribution of cocaine, once in Wildwood and once in Rio Grande near Belles Park (by the intersection of Routes 9 and 47).
Mark Patro
Mark Patro, 27, was arrested in Avalon April 3 for a domestic incident in which he allegedly made threats while in possession of a weapon. Patro was indicted for two counts of third-degree terroristic threats, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and one fourth-degree count of unlawful possession of a weapon. The weapon in question was identified in the indictment as a knife.
Jeffrey Ortiz
Jeffrey Ortiz, 32, of Villas, was indicted for possession of a CDS, heroin, third degree. The incident occurred in Woodbine.
Matthew Jaffe
Matthew Jaffe, 49, was indicted for defrauding the administration of a drug test required by law. The count is in the third degree.
The above individuals are only charged with the offenses and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
