Indictments Filed May 31

COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 14 indictments May 31. 
Thomas Duffy
Thomas Duffy, of Del Haven, was indicted for third-degree aggravated assault and two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Duffy allegedly committed the assault in April as part of a domestic incident which also involved two young children ages 9 and 6.
Jason Scarlett
Stolen copper from a motel led to Jason Scarlett, 41, of Commercial Township, being indicted for burglary, theft, and criminal mischief, all third-degree.  The indictment alleges that Scarlett unlawfully entered the motel on Route 47 Dec. 15, 2015, took copper with a value more than $500 and caused damage to real property that exceeded $2,000.
Due to an outstanding warrant from Port Norris, Scarlet was booked and processed on the Cape May County charges and transported to the State Police in Port Norris. He was lodged in the Cumberland County Jail.
Joseph L. Montgomery III
Convicted in 1984 in Cumberland County of an attempt to commit sexual; assault, Joseph Montgomery, 50, of Villas, failed to re-register upon a change of address as required for a sex offender. The failure to notify local law enforcement of his change of address is a third-degree offense.
Robert Terrell
Robert Terrell was convicted of first-degree robbery in 2007 in Atlantic County. That conviction means he is a certain person not allowed to carry a weapon. On March 28, Terrell was arrested in Ocean City for carrying a stun gun. He was indicted for fourth-degree prohibited weapon and certain person counts.
Bridget L. Young
Bridget Young, 25, of Wildwood, was indicted for resisting arrests, two counts, one fourth and one-third degree. Young allegedly fled to elude a Wildwood police officer and then threatened to use force or violence to avoid apprehension.
Michael T. Thompson, Nasear R. Butler, Mellisa Larsen
In February, a Rio Grande motel on Route 9 was the site of an alleged scheme to set up a prostitution service in Middle Township.  Three individuals with no ties to the area were arrested and charged.
Mellissa Larsen, 28, and Michael Thompson, 30, both of Asbury Park, along with Nasear Butler, 19, of Philadelphia, were indicted for promoting prostitution and conspiracy to promote prostitution, both third-degree.
Since Thompson is allegedly a documented member of the Bloods street gang, the indictment carried the added second-degree count of gang criminality.
Through use of the Homeless Hotline, the trio had obtained a voucher for the motel. A tip from Cape May County Social Services led to Middle Township Police response.
Police report that the alleged offenders were soliciting customers for their service via a number of social media sites.
Nelson P. Casanova, Sabrina Hemphill, Sonny Sinnerard
Nelson Casanova, 34, and Sabrina Hemphill, 21, both of Wildwood, and Sonny Sinnerard, 21, of Burleigh, were indicted for possession of heroin, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), and distribution of a CDS within 1,000 feet of a school and 500 feet of public property. The charges stem from a March 31 incident in Wildwood.
Ryan Clemson
Ryan Clemson, 26, of Ocean View, was indicted for bail jumping, third- degree.  The indictment alleges that Clemson failed to appear as required in Superior Court to face charges of possession of a CDS and resisting arrest in May, 2015.
Mohamed H. Ahmed
Mohamed Ahmed, 24, of Richmond, Va., was indicted for unlawful possession of a weapon, a pellet gun. The incident occurred in April in North Wildwood.
George R. Beatty
An indictment resulted for George Beatty citing August 2011, attempting to obtain a CDS by fraud and promoting a false public alarm, both third degree. There was no information in the indictment to explain the extended period since the alleged offense.
Edward F. Evans
Edward Evans was indicted for terroristic threats, third-degree, and witness tampering, second-degree. The indictment alleges that Evan, on April 26, in West Wildwood, threaten to kill a potential witness in a proceeding against him, with the intent of altering her testimony.
Michael Gillen, Donald Carter
In unrelated indictments, Michael Gillen, 20, of Wildwood and Donald Carter, 36, of Port Norris, were indicted for third-degree possession of heroin. Both alleged offenses were in March.
Joshua Grant, Kathy Grant, Christy White
Joshua Grant, 26, of Millville, Kathy Grant, and Christy White, 31, Belleplain were indicted for possession of a CDS, third-degree. The action stems from an incident in December 2015. The CDS was heroin.
The individuals are only charged with the offenses and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
