COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 32 indictments March 1.
The abbreviation CDS stands for controlled dangerous substance.
Thomas Waters
Thomas Waters was indicted for aggravated sexual assault, first degree, and endangering the welfare of a child, second degree. The alleged assault, from July 2015, was on a victim under the age of 13.
Nicholas Zervas
Nicholas Zervas was indicted for criminal sexual contact, fourth degree, for an incident in July 2014 in West Cape May. The indictment alleges that Zervas “used physical force or coercion for purposes of sexual arousal.”
Christopher Weldon, Sabrina Givens
Two Gloucester City residents, Christopher Weldon, 35, and Sabrina Givens, 37, were stopped and arrested in the area of Shell Bay Avenue, Court House after the car they were traveling in was seen in the vicinity of a commercial burglary in the early morning of Jan. 7. Police found merchandise from the allegedly burglarized store in the car.
The arrest helped end a string of over 14 burglaries covering eight jurisdictions from Medford to Middle Township. Police estimated the burglaries involved over $40,000 in stolen property. In Cape May County, the two were indicted for burglary, theft, possession of CDS, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and conspiracy, all third degree, along with fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Weldon, having been convicted of burglary in 2011 in Camden County, was also charged with certain person, third degree due to the weapon violation.
Kyle Montanez
Two separate incidents Nov. 27 and Dec. 7, 2015, netted Kyle Montanez, 20, of Wildwood, a string of indictments for drug-related crimes. Montanez allegedly possessed marijuana with intent to distribute in areas near Cape Trinity School and Glenwood Elementary School in Wildwood. He was indicted for distribution of a CDS, fourth degree, distribution within 1,000 feet of a school, third degree, and within 500 feet of public property, Cedar Park, second degree. Charges were for each incident. The indictment also added a third degree charge for possession of a CDS.
Michael Morelli
Michael Morelli, 45, of Wildwood Crest, was involved in accidents where he allegedly hit two separate pedestrians several yards apart just prior to Lower Township’s Christmas parade Dec. 12, 2015. Police said that Morelli had two passengers in the car who each fled the scene on foot but who later returned and were questioned.
Both pedestrians injured in the incident were North Cape May residents. Morelli was found to be a fugitive from justice in Tennessee. In Cape May County, he has been indicted for knowingly leaving the scene of an accident, two counts, third degree, assault by auto, fourth degree, and endangering an injured victim, two counts, third degree.
Louis Champion
During a period that straddled November and December 2015, Louis Champion, 35, of Howell, allegedly took a credit card belonging to a family member along with a blank check that was later forged and cashed at a local bank. Champion also “temporarily” took control of a car without authorization. Champion was indicted for unlawful theft of a credit card and theft, both fourth degree, fraudulent use of credit card, third degree, forgery and uttering a forged instrument, both third degree, and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, fourth degree.
Sarah Murphy, Lawrence T. Sheeron
Sarah Murphy, 35, of Erma, and Lawrence Sheeron, 41, of Rio Grande, were indicted for a string of burglaries in November and December 2015. The indictment identified four properties in Dennis Township where the two allegedly drove, had Murphy get out and smash a window to gain entrance, and drove off with stolen goods. Charges additional to the four in this indictment may be forthcoming as police close other burglary cases, they believe, in which the two may have been involved.
So far police have seized several thousand dollars of stolen jewelry, prescription narcotics and hypodermic needles according to a press release.
The two were indicted for four counts each of third degree burglary and conspiracy, third degree theft, and third degree criminal mischief with over $2,000 in damage to property.
Brian Hrubos
Brian Hrubos, 27, of North Cape May, was indicted for burglary and theft, both third degree. Hrubos allegedly broke into the Lower Cape May Regional High School on Route 9 and took moveable property belonging to three separate individuals totaling more than $500 in value.
Denis Martinez-Justo
Denis Martinez-Justo, 36, of Swainton, was indicted for unlawful theft or receipt of a credit card, fourth degree, and fraudulent use of a credit card, third degree, and third degree theft. The indictment alleges that Martinez-Justo gained access to the card during December 2015. It also alleges that in a two-day period from Dec. 30 to 31, Martinez-Justo used the card at a convenience store, a liquor store, a fast-food restaurant, a super market and two large retailers.
Gary Laracuente, Stephanie Ferrell
Gary Laracuente, 40, and Stephanie Ferrell, 31, of Court House, were indicted for third degree possession of a CDS and possession of a CDS with intent to distribute. The incident occurred Sept. 24, 2015 in Middle Township and involved heroin. Since Laracuente and Ferrell had what the indictment claims was a “legal duty to care for” an 8-year-old, they also face a second degree charge for endangering the welfare of a child.
The above individuals are only charged with the offenses and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
