COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 16 indictments Aug. 29.
The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance. The crime of “certain person” below stands for “certain person not to have a weapon.”
Individuals convicted of a felony are not allowed to carry a weapon at any time. When such an individual is found in possession of a weapon, a “certain person” charge is usually added to the indictment.
William Baberick, Mercedes Stockton
The grand jury handed up a 15-count indictment against William Baberick, 21, of Haddon Heights, and Mercedes Stockton, 22, of Willingboro, in connection with alleged crimes that began in Mantua Township, Gloucester County, and ended in Cape May Point.
On June 26, Mantua Police responded to a report of an armed robbery outside a building supply store in Sewell. In that incident, the perpetrators took credit cards and had the car they were using captured on video by witnesses.
Use of the credit cards led police to Cape May Point where a report of a stolen SUV was linked to the case. The car led police to a dwelling in the Point, and Baberick and Stockton were arrested.
Baberick has been indicted on 15 counts of weapons charges, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, witness tampering, burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Three of the counts were in the second degree.

The indictment also claims that McAllister took a credit card from the room and used it at several stores in the area including a super market, a convenience store, and a chain drug store. This led to counts for unlawful theft of a credit card and theft by deception, each fourth degree, along with three counts of third-degree fraudulent use of a credit card.
