Indictments Filed April 24

COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 11 indictments April 24.  
The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance. 
A certain person charge can be brought against anyone carrying a weapon but whose previous criminal convictions prohibit possession of a weapon.  
The following actions are alleged by law enforcement agents. Persons named are innocent until proven otherwise in court.
Preston J. Conner
Preston Conner, 20, of Lower Township, was indicted for first-degree endangering the welfare of a child along with second-degree sexual assault. Two additional counts were added for third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the indictment, Conner was involved in prohibited behavior with a 14-year-old minor and recorded the incident, engaging in the possession and sale of child pornography. This behavior occurred over diverse dates in February and April 2018.
Gregory R. Giuliano
Gregory Giuliano, 34, was arrested in Middle Township in January for possession of a .40 caliber handgun. An earlier series of convictions for burglary and assault dating to 2003 made it illegal for Giuliano to possess a weapon.
He was indicted for second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree certain person.
Gregory R. Giuliano, Kristen Apple-Millar
The above Gregory Giuliano, 34, along with Kristen Apple-Millar, 40, faces a 15-count indictment related to a string of burglaries and thefts in Wildwood Crest just a month after Giuliano’s arrest on weapons charges.
The two were listed in a police press release as residents of Pennsylvania.
Giuliano and Apple-Millar were indicted on six counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of third-degree theft, three counts of possession of a CDS, conspiracy and obstructing the administration of law.
Six homes and businesses in Wildwood Crest were broken into on Lotus Road, Atlantic Avenue, Pacific Avenue, and East Monterey Road. The drugs involved included heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and tramadol.
Both individuals were also found to have active warrants for burglaries in other jurisdictions.
Paul K. Harker, Kathryn J. Gaines
Paul Harker, 51, and Kathryn Gaines, 48, both of North Cape May, were indicted on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count in the second degree and the other in the third degree. The charges stem from an arrest in Lower Township Jan. 30 related to the possession and distribution of child pornography.
William T. Merritt
William Merritt, 42, of Hot Springs, Va., was indicted on one count of fourth-degree assault on a Lower Township police officer in March.
David Nester
David Nester was indicted on two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of third-degree theft related to an incident in Wildwood in August 2017.
Jennifer Scott
Jennifer Scott was indicted for escape following an incident in which the indictment claims she “absconded from official detention” just after having been sentenced on an earlier conviction.
Cortney M. Plexico
Cortney Plexico, 36, of Court House, was driving a car stopped by Lower Township police in January.  Police stated that a check for warrants led to Plexico’s detention.  A subsequent search led to this indictment for third-degree possession of a CDS, heroin.
Joseph J. Owens
Joseph Owens, 31, of North Cape May, was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, fentanyl.
Jose M. Casanova
Jose Casanova was indicted for third-degree aggravated assault after an incident in Wildwood Crest in March resulted in serious bodily injury to the victim.
Roosevelt Defrietas
Roosevelt Defrietas, of Wildwood, was indicted for possession of a CDS, cocaine, a third-degree count. He also faces a fourth-degree count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
