Indictments Filed April 10

COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up nine indictments April 10.
The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance.  
The following actions are alleged by law enforcement agents. Persons named are innocent until proven otherwise in court.
Anthony E. Young
Anthony E. Young, 39, of Williamstown, was indicted for first-degree sexual assault. The indictment states that Young used physical force and coercion in a sexual assault that inflicted severe personal injury to the victim. A conviction on a first-degree charge can carry a 10 to 20-year prison sentence.
Christopher W. Swift
On Nov. 25, 2017, Christopher Swift was arrested in Wildwood for possession of a .40 caliber Taurus model PT140 handgun. Swift was indicted for second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Robert J. Velozo
Robert Velozo, 31, of Villas was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, alprazolam, following his arrest in Lower Township.
Patricia A. Redding
Patricia Redding, of Cape May, was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, heroin.
Nana A. Akyaa
Nana Akyaa was indicted on credit card fraud charges. The indictment states that Akyaa unlawfully possessed the credit card of a female victim whom Akyaa impersonated to use the card to purchase over $500 worth of goods and services. Akyaa was indicted for third-degree theft and fraudulent use of a credit card, along with fourth-degree counts of unlawful theft of a credit card and using the personal identifying information of another. 
James Barbera
In Lower Township in February, James Barbera was arrested for possession of heroin. He was indicted this week for third-degree possession of a CDS.
Donna M. Magauran
Donna Magauran was indicted for third-degree aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, along with a fourth-degree count of unlawful possession of a weapon. The indictment states that Magauran assaulted a male victim with “a deadly weapon,” a beer bottle.
Christopher M. McHugh
Christopher McHugh was indicted for third-degree possession of a CDS, alprazolam, in Wildwood Crest Nov. 23, 2017.
Louis Mendez, Manuel Romero, Jose A. Gonzalez, Leroy J. Parker
Louis Mendez, Manuel Romero, Jose Gonzalez and Leroy Parker were each indicted for second-degree burglary and third-degree aggravated assault. 
According to the indictment, the four men unlawfully entered a residence on Webster Avenue in Woodbine. It states that “in the course of committing a burglary” the four “did attempt to inflict bodily injury.”
