Heroin, Cocaine Sales Bring Charges

BURLEIGH – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner announce the arrest of Kelvin Morales, 33, of Burleigh for the distribution of heroin and cocaine Jan. 21.

This arrest was the conclusion of a cooperative investigation between the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force and the Middle Township Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit.

On Jan. 21, a court-authorized search warrant was executed at Morales’ residence, that being a motel on the 1200 block of Georgia Avenue in Burleigh, as well as his vehicle. As a result, approximately 700 bags of heroin and 86 bags of “crack” cocaine were seized with an estimated street value of $9,000.

Morales was charged with possession of CDS (heroin), a crime of the second degree, distribution of CDS (heroin), a crime of the second degree, possession of CDS (crack-cocaine), a crime of the third degree, distribution of CDS (crack-cocaine), a crime of the third degree and possession of marijuana, a disorderly persons offense. Morales was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $100,000 full cash bail set by Judge Incarvito-Garrabrant, J.M.C.

Prosecutor Taylor advises that persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison. Prosecutor Taylor stated that his office will continue to work hand in hand with the local municipalities to target anyone selling illegal controlled dangerous substances.
