Hapless Wildwood Man Hits State Police Cruiser

By Herald Staff

VINELAND –– A Wildwood resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and having an open container on New Year’s Eve after he sideswiped a state police patrol vehicle on the scene of a car fire on Route 55.
According to Sgt. Ted Murphy, of the Port Norris barracks, State Police were conducting an investigation at the scene of a car fire at 10:37 p.m. when Harry M. Bauer, 27, of Wildwood, struck the side of a patrol car causing minor damage.
After the accident, Bauer was pulled over at milepost 31.2 and complied with police without incident.
Murphy said Bauer was arrested and released with no criminal charges because DWI offences are considered traffic violations in this state.
There were no injuries in either incident, Murphy reported, noting that Vineland Fire Company had responded quickly to the car fire.
The accident remains under investigation.
