Gun Investigation Leads To Large Seizure of Marijuana

NORTH CAPE MAY – The Lower Township Police Department on Monday April 12th 2010 received information in regards to the illegal possession of a handgun in the 3000 block of Bayshore Road in the North Cape May section of Lower Township.
Follow-up investigation by detectives from Lower Township and the Cape May County Prosecutors Office lead to a person of interest, Upon inquiry and obtaining a consent to search of the apartment, approximately two pounds of marijuana was discovered in several bags.
The resident of the apartment identified as Brittany Kane 18 years of age of the 3000 block of Bayshore Road was arrested and transported to the Lower Township Police Department. Also found hiding in the residence was a 17-year-old juvenile who was a runaway from Middle Township. The juvenile was also charged and transported to the Lower Township Police Department.
Both suspects were charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana with the intent to distribute. Judge David DeWeese set bail on Kane at $15,000,00. She was then transferred to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of bail. The juvenile was turned over to the Division of Youth and Family Services.
Detective Chris Lambert investigated the case with assistance of detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Guns, Gangs and Drugs Taskforce. The investigation into the possession of an illegal handgun is still ongoing at this time.
