COURT HOUSE – Robert Greco Jr., former chairman of the Cumberland County Regular Republican Organization, must return $149,000 of stolen money or possibly face four years in prison, according to a report on NJ.com.
According to the report, Greco appeared in Cape May County Superior Court Dec. 8 where it was agreed that Greco would pay back the stolen money on Dec. 22 and return to court again on Jan. 8 for sentencing. According to his plea agreement, if Greco pays back the $149,000, he will avoid a prison sentence and receive a probation sentence.
Greco pleaded guilty to theft in June.
According to a previous release, authorities alleged Greco, owner and administrator of the East Creek Manor Rehabilitation Center, located in Eldora, admitted an elderly patient in December 2012. Upon admitting the victim into the facility, Greco convinced the victim to sign power of attorney documentation giving control of this patient’s financial portfolio to Greco.
Greco subsequently removed in excess of $149,000 from the victim’s bank accounts while the victim resided at the East Creek Rehabilitation Center. These funds were not directly related to the care of the victim but instead were used to pay for expenses that Greco and his business incurred.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit investigated the offenses which are alleged to have occurred in 2012 and 2013.
Greco was also originally charged with failure to file a tax return and failure to pay income taxes, but these charges were dropped during the plea agreement, according to the report.
