WILDWOOD – Evan Strothers, 30, of Egg Harbor Township pleaded guilty March 2 to conspiring to traffic in counterfeit goods, according to a report on nj.com.
Evan Strothers and his brother Brett Strothers, 35, of Mays Landing, purchased at least 16,700 counterfeit National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Football League (NFL) sports jerseys made in China, which they used as prizes in several different basketball and football tossing amusement park games they operated on the Wildwood and North Wildwood boardwalk, from 2010 to 2012, according to a criminal complaint.
Brett Strothers pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic in counterfeit goods in February. The maximum sentence is 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine, or twice the gross amount of gain or loss sustained by any victim.
The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price for authentic versions of these jerseys is estimated at approximately $4 million.
