Fugitive Attempts Vent Escape

By Herald Staff

VILLAS — The Lower Township Police Department reported the arrest of a wanted subject and his wife.
On the evening of Oct. 7 while following up on a wanted subject in the 200 block of East New York Avenue, detectives spoke with Jennifer Howey, 34, about her husband Robert Howey, 34, who had been observed entering the residence.
Jennifer Howey stated that her husband had left out the back door and was not there anymore.
Upon a check of the residence the subject was located in the attic area attempting to climb through a vent in the attic wall.
He attempted to resist arrest and fell partially through the ceiling. Both Howeys were placed under arrest.
While being searched Robert Howey was found in possession of a hypodermic syringe and the uncapped syringe stuck the officer who was patting him down. The officer was treated at the Cape Regional Medical Center and released.
Robert Howey was wanted on a body warrant with no bail for a contempt case out of Superior Court for a previous drug charge.
In addition, he was charged with resisting arrest and transported to county jail. Jennifer Howey was charged with hindering apprehension and released on a summons.
Patrolman Matthew Dickinson, Detective Chris Lambert and Detective First Class Mel Hedum investigated the case.
