COURT HOUSE – Former beach tag supervisor Charles Cusack, 52, was sentenced March 17 after pleading guilty in November to charges of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to a report on Shore News Today.
He was sentenced to five years probation.
Cusack, who retired from the Ocean City Police Department in 2011, avoided jail time, but will have to register as a sex offender under New Jersey’s Megan’s Law registry, according to the report. He faces a minimum of 15 years on the registry until he can petition to be removed from the list.
He also faces an indefinite forfeiture of public employment, a restraining order with the victim and about $1,500 in court and statutory fees.
The victim, whose name is being withheld from this report, was a minor when she was hired in July 2012 by Cusak, who was then working as superintendent of beach fee operations, according to previous Herald reports.
A lawsuit filed by the victim in Cape May County Superior Court earlier this year alleged that the assaults took place in Cusack’s home, as well as in an office along the Ocean City waterfront that housed the beach badge operations.
According to Shore News Today, the city of Ocean City is also named as a defendant in the civil suit filed by the victim. The suit is ongoing.
