CREST HAVEN – An Erma contractor was arrested April 16 in the wake of a three-month investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crimes Unit.
In an April 17 release, County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced the arrest of W.K. “Kip” Johnson, 55, of Erma. The investigation determined that Johnson, of American Heritage Construction, in Erma, had allegedly manipulated documents prepared by a modular home manufacturer which defrauded the victim out of about $21,000.
Johnson was charged with theft by deception, forgery, uttering, and operating a business without a license.
Sutherland noted that the investigation was ongoing and was being handled by detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit.
Further, he urged anyone with additional information relating to the investigation into Johnson or his construction business, American Heritage, to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at (609) 465-1135. They can also report anonymously through the Sheriff’s Tip Line at cmcsheriff.net and click on anonymous tip, or via the Cape May County Crime Stoppers, 609-465-2800.
The above information was provided by a law enforcement agency. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.
