COURT HOUSE – Two men were arrested in a drug bust that yielded 232 bags of heroin in addition to $6,000 in cash.
County Prosecutor Robert Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner announced the Nov. 28 arrests.
According to police, a court authorized search warrant was executed by the Cape May County Regional SWAT team on a residence in the 100 block of West Geneva Avenue in the Del Haven section of the township.
The arrests were made as a result of a cooperative investigation by the county Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force and Middle Township Police Department’s Special Services Unit.
As a result of the investigation, two men were arrested and 232 bags of heroin were seized. Over $6,000.00 in currency was also seized. The estimated street value of the seized heroin is more than $4,600.
Police arrested Robert Payne, 21, of Philadelphia. Payne was charged with third-degree possession of heroin; third-degree possession of heroin with intent to distribute; and possession of heroin with intent to distribute within 500 feet of certain public property, a second-degree crime. According to police, the public property was identified as Cape May County Park, South.
Payne is lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 full cash bail.
Also arrested for an outstanding warrant was Hadith Hicks, 22, of Lower Township.
Taylor advised that persons convicted of a second-degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of five to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison; persons convicted of a third-degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of three to five years in New Jersey State Prison.
