Drug Arrest Results in 672 Bags of Heroin Seized

COURTHOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Wildwood Police Chief Steve Long announce the arrest of a local resident Edwin Perez of Cape May County,during the execution of a search warrant in Wildwood, New Jersey.
The arrest is a result of a cooperative effort by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force and the Wildwood Police Department.
On July 31, 2013, a Court Authorized Search Warrant was executed by the Cape May County Regional S.W.A.T team in the 400 West block of Roberts Avenue in Wildwood, New Jersey. As a result of the investigation, 672 bags of heroin were seized along with drug paraphernalia. The estimated street value of the heroin seized is over $13,440.00. A passenger style motor vehicle utilized by Edwin Perez was also seized and pending civil forfeiture.
As a result of the investigation, Edwin Perez, (37) years old was charged with the following and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility in lieu of $210,000.00 full cash bail:
Possession of heroin, a third degree crime.
Possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, a crime of the second degree.
Possession of CDS, with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public place.
Prosecutor Taylor advises that persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison; persons convicted of a third degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison. Prosecutor Taylor commented that heroin is one of the deadliest and most abused illegal substance within Cape May County as well as in the State and continues to be major contributor to the rising number of drug related overdoses within the State. Prosecutor Taylor further commented that his office along with the local law enforcement within Cape May County are aggressively seeking out the individuals responsible for distributing these Controlled Dangerous Substances in an attempt to rid the streets of these dangerous drugs and provide a safe and drug free atmosphere for the residents of Cape May County
