NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood Police have found the driver of a vehicle who allegedly hit and killed a dog Jan. 19. The driver of the vehicle, John Addae, was located after investigation developed Addae as a suspect in this incident. Addae was cooperative with police during the investigation.
A press release was released in January attempting to locate the driver of a vehicle that struck a dog and left the scene. Officers responded to 6th and Surf avenues for a report of a hit and run motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle striking a dog. The owner of the dog told police he was walking his dog on a leash when a vehicle struck the dog and continued north on Surf Avenue without stopping.
The vehicle that left the scene was described as possibly a dark-colored 2004 Dodge Stratus with front end damage and missing a headlight as a result of the accident. Addae was located with his vehicle, a 2004 black Dodge Stratus.
The dog, an Irish Water Spaniel named Kingston, died as a result of injuries sustained in this incident.
John Addae, from Atlantic County, was charged with cruelty to animals (motorist hitting domestic animal required to stop) which is a petty disorderly persons offense. Addae was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report accident and careless driving.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
