WILDWOOD CREST – Wildwood Crest Police Officers were called to a residence on New Jersey Avenue for a reported domestic violence incident involving a weapon Saturday, March 28 at 3 p.m.
Upon arriving, officers learned that Shirley Straily, 51, of Wildwood Crest, had used a large meat cleaver to threaten a male acquaintance. Cpl. Michael Hebert and Detective Sgt. Edward Gorski investigated the incident. Prior to police arrival, Straily allegedly used the cleaver to attempt to gain access into a bedroom where the male victim had retreated. The weapon was recovered and Straily was arrested without incident. The male was not injured.
Straily was charged with terroristic threats and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. She was lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center in default of $5,000.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
