RIO GRANDE – Middle Township Police Department responded to Cape May County Social Services for a report of an assault Feb. 22 at 12 p.m.
As a result of an investigation by Patrolman Brian Vergantino and the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit, Mellissa Larsen, 28, Michael Thompson, 30, both from Asbury Park, and Nasear Butler, 19, of Philadelphia were arrested for promoting prostitution and conspiracy. The investigation revealed the trio came to Rio Grande to set up a prostitution scheme out of a motel on the 3100 block of Route 9 south. The prostitution service was led by Thompson, who is a documented Bloods street gang member and they were in the process of soliciting individuals via a multitude of social media sites. The night before they contacted the homeless hotline and were placed in the motel on a voucher. The trio do not have any ties to the area.
All three were released on summonses. Thompson was transported to Cape May County Correctional Center for a violation of probation warrant.
