Dennisville Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Woodbine Shooting

WOODBINE – Troopers from the Woodbine Station working with detectives from the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Unit, Troop “A” Criminal Investigations Office, and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, have made an arrest in the murder of Damien Fashaw, 41, of Woodbine.
On Thursday, Oct. 9 at approximately 9:15 p.m., troopers responded to the 300 block of Jefferson Street for the report of a man lying in the middle of the street. When troopers arrived, they found the victim lying unconscious in the middle of the street with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, where he was pronounced deceased at 10:29 p.m.
During the investigation, troopers learned that Fashaw and the suspect, Xavier Geisinger, 20, of Dennisville, were having an argument outside of Fashaw’s residence. Approximately 20 minutes later, witnesses reported the sound of a gunshot and the victim was later found lying in the street.
A post mortem examination conducted by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be homicide as a result of a gunshot wound.
Geisinger was subsequently located at his grandparent’s residence and was later transported to Woodbine Station. Detectives then obtained a search warrant for victim’s vehicle. As a result of the search warrant, investigators seized evidence pertaining to the investigation.
“Because of the work of our investigators, a suspected murderer was taken off of the streets in less than 24 hours,” said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police in a release. “I commend the tireless efforts of our troopers, detectives, and law enforcement partners who were involved in this investigation.”
Geisinger was charged with murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. He is currently lodged at the Cape May County Jail in default of $750,000 full cash bail.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
