NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood Police responded to a call for a robbery of a delivery man at 14th and Central avenues Sunday, April 19 at 9:44 p.m.
Upon arrival, Officer Eric Nevil observed a vehicle parked in the middle of the 100 block of East 14th Avenue. The delivery man was sitting in his vehicle and told the officer that he was punched in the face while making a delivery with the accused trying to rob him of his cash and food. The delivery driver gave officers a description of the accused and stated he ran south through properties before police arrived.
Officers searched the area and Officer Nevil found a suspect matching the description on the 400 block of 15th Avenue. Further investigation revealed that the accused, Mark Caserta, committed the robbery and the assault on the delivery driver and that he committed multiple car burglaries in North Wildwood. Caserta was also in possession of keys belonging to a vehicle that was recovered stolen in North Wildwood from the State of Delaware.
Mark Caserta, 26, residing in Wilmington, Del., was arrested and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. He was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center on bail set by Judge Louis J. Belasco, Jr., PJMC, in the amount of $100,000/full cash. Additional charges are pending. The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
