DEL HAVEN — Middle Township police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on Eldridge Avenue. The report was made at 6:15 a.m., Sun., March 25.
Upon arrival, police found Robert Forbes, 34, of Del Haven inside the home. When responding officers attempted to arrest Forbes, he resisted by allegedly kicking one officer and slamming the door on another officer’s hand. Forbes’ actions caused minor injuries to both officers.
An officer was able to convince Forbes to open the door and he was arrested without further incident.
Upon investigation officers learned Forbes had gained entry into the home by using a brick to break the front window. A female resident of the home locked herself inside her bedroom, however Forbes was able to gain entry into the bedroom where he allegedly assaulted the woman by punching her in the face several times.
The victim was able to get away from her assailant, however Forbes grabbed a knife and threatened to kill the woman.,
Forbes has been charged with contempt (violation of a restraining order); two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer; resisting arrest; burglary; aggravated assault; unlawful possession of a weapon; possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose; and terroristic threats. He is being lodged in Cape May County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.
