Costino Cleared Again

By Al Campbell

COURT HOUSE – Dr. John Costino of North Wildwood was found not guilty June 24 of violating a Superior Court judge’s order, which carried a charge of criminal contempt.
The physician, who has not practiced medicine since the state Board of Medical Examiners revoked his license in 2009, had been indicted six times for a variety of charges. Every indictment was dismissed or Costino was found not guilty.
The most recent case involved Costino’s discourse with a Herald reporter over a drug case that responded to a release from the County Prosecutor’s office. That, and a long letter to his patients revealing his side of the matter, resulted in the contempt charge in 2012 for which he was again indicted.
In practice locally since 1976, Costino was first arrested in September 2007 at his Surf Avenue practice, which focused on pain medicine for those suffering addictions with Suboxone.
Throughout all his legal encounters, Costino maintained his innocence, and told the Herald he would ultimately have his day in court and be found not guilty by a jury.
With legal proceedings behind him, it is likely Costino will attempt to regain his medical license to resume his practice of medicine.
