COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor announced that on Aug. 1, Hector Ramos, of Middle Township, was sentenced to 45 years in state prison by Superior Court Judge John C. Porto.
This sentence was in connection with “Operation White House,” a large-scale narcotics investigation initiated in April 2014 by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force.
Additionally involved in the investigation was the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and numerous municipal police departments throughout Cape May County.
From this investigation, it was learned that Ramos was involved in a large drug distribution network operating within Cape May and Cumberland counties. This network was also found to have a direct connection to a drug cartel operating within Mexico.
As a result of this investigation, a total of 17 kilograms or 37.4 pounds of heroin was seized. The potential street value of the heroin was approximately $15 million and the equivalent to approximately 750,000 individual baggies of heroin.
Also seized for forfeiture was approximately $225,000 and numerous vehicles which were the direct proceeds of the drug distribution activity in Cape May and Cumberland counties.
Prosecutor Taylor stated that his office will continue to work hand in hand with the local municipalities, other counties, and state and federal agencies to target anyone associated with drug distribution and the sale of illegal controlled dangerous substances.
Prosecutor Taylor continues to urge the citizens of Cape May County to report any information regarding illegal drug activity and/or any criminal activity within the community and that this information can be reported anonymously through the Cape May County Sheriff’s Tip Line at cmcsheriff.net and click on anonymous tip, or through the Cape May County Crime Stoppers at 609-465-2800 or 877-465-2801, and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135.
