CMCo Prosecutor’s Office Makes $300K Drug Bust

COURT HOUSE – Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of a Court House man for distribution of methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine March 3 after conducting a search of his residence, vehicles, and storage facility.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Chief of County Detectives Mike Emmer announced the arrest of Luis Hernandez, 37, of the 1100 block of Route 83 South, Court House, for the distribution of controlled dangerous substances. 
The Prosecutor’s Office issued a press release March 3 saying that the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force concluded a cooperative narcotics investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine by Hernandez. 
Also March 3, the Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Cape May County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, New Jersey State Police (NJSP) K-9 Unit, NJSP Special Investigations Unit–South and NJSP Woodbine Station executed court-authorized search warrants on the residence, vehicles, and storage facility belonging to Hernandez. 
As a result of these searches, approximately 16.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, over 1,400 bags of suspected heroin and over a half-ounce of crack cocaine were seized. The cumulative street value of these illegal narcotics is approximately $300,000. 
Hernandez was charged with the following: 
• Possession with intent to distribute (methamphetamine), a crime of the first degree. 
• Possession with intent to distribute (heroin), a crime of the second degree. 
• Possession with intent to distribute (cocaine), a crime of the second degree. 
• Possession of CDS (methamphetamine), a crime of the third degree. 
• Possession of CDS (heroin), a crime of the third degree. 
• Possession of CDS (cocaine), a crime of the third degree. 
• Distribution of drug paraphernalia, a crime of the fourth degree. 
• Money laundering, a crime of the third degree. 
Hernandez was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings. 
Individuals convicted of first-degree crimes are subject to a term of imprisonment of 10 to 20 years in New Jersey state prison and individuals convicted of second-degree crimes are subject to a term of imprisonment of five to 10 years in state prison.
