COURT HOUSE – Jonathan Perez, a 33-year-old corrections officer at the Cape May County Correctional Facility, was arrested Feb. 12 for allegedly sexually assaulting a juvenile female.

New Jersey State Police received a tip Feb. 11 that Perez had been engaged in the abuse for an “extended period of time,” a Feb. 14 release from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said. Perez’s location was unknown at the time the charges were filed, but state police from the Woodbine barracks soon located and apprehended him.

Perez has been suspended from his position at the county jail without pay.

He was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of second-degree sexual assault.

Perez was processed on the above charges and then lodged in the Atlantic County Jail pending court proceedings.
